CASE STUDY 1: Apparel Manufacturing solution for Trend Setters Pvt Ltd (TSPL)


THE CLIENT

Trend Setters Pvt Ltd is in the business of Apparel manufacturing and exporting for reputed customers in US and Europe. The company has a workforce of about 3000+ employees working in five factories.

THE REQUIREMENT
With the growing demand from customers to reduce the turn around time in delivering garments and also pressure on margin due to increased competition, TSPL wanted an end-to-end solution to manage its factories efficiently as well as its workforce. TSPL had few stand alone softwares to manage its finance, inventory etc, but they were just not adequate. Due to this there was a lot of duplication in data entry and the information was not enough to handle its growing operations. Another problem was, most of the factories are at remote locations and there was no data network connecting these factories and the Head office.

THE SOLUTION
NeoSoft/ExcelSoft suggested its flagship software TOPS/ERP to TSPL. TOPS provided an ideal solution to TSPL for its end-to-end requirements such as order processing, inventory, industrial engineering, production planning & monitoring, capacity planning, finance, quality, documentation etc in an integrated manner. Also with the help of off-line data replication technology, it was possible to replicate data from five locations to a central location (HO) and vice versa. This helped the management to have centralised access to data originating from remote locations.

THE CHALLENGE
Implementing an ERP is no easy challenge given the number of department and users involved. The users are split across multiple locations. There is no WAN in place connecting factories and Head office.

THE CLIENT

Dart Express West Asia (DE) is in the business of Freight Forwarding. DE operate from 8 locations from Dubai, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan.

THE REQUIREMENT
Each location of DE was using standalone software packages for their operations and finance department. Due to this it was difficult and inefficient for the group management to get overall business information from each location. Within each location, the operations department and finance department were using separate software packages. This resulted in inefficiency, lack of control as well as duplication of data entry.

THE SOLUTION
NeoSoft/ExcelSoft suggested a web centric software (e-Freight), solution to DE. The software is well integrated with modules such as Air Freight operations, Sea Freight operations, Finance and HRD. This solution is being implemented in all locations.

Business Profile of the client

The client is one of the largest players in the apparel industry in Sri Lanka with many production facilities strategically located around the island.

Challenges
The biggest challenge for the client lay in centralized data for decision making purposes. Each production facility maintained its own data related to inventory, vendor, human resource and productivity. Coupled to this was the need to extract data from an ERP system.

Solution
A requirement for the system was to provide for retrieving data from all the distributed sources, validate the data and integrate it with a central repository for reporting and analytical purposes.
NeoSoft/ ExcelSoft developed a decision support solution to meet the client's requirements. This solution involved extracting data from the data sources at the production facilities, validating and transforming the data, and loading them into a central repository. The solution also addressed the issues of reporting by creating canned reports to be used at regular intervals and analytical reports with the ability to forecast and identify patterns.

Business Profile of the client

The client is a large banking group in Sri Lanka with a strong regional presence with a branch network with 22 branches strategically located around the island.

Challenges
Having business areas ranging from Trade Financing to Renovation loans, the banking industry is highly regulated with many banking rules. Our client has itself issued many regulatory and (internal) procedure instruction circulars as well as information circulars to guide its staff in their daily operations. It was seeking a way to automate these instructions and circulars to expedite searching of documents via index searching and gain staff productivity. Eliminate the flow of physical paper between branches & departments. Finally, the need to destroy a document after a specified period.

Solution
A requirement for the system was to provide for the scanning and uploading of such scanned and other electronic documents to an automated system, thereby removing the need for physical storage of such documents. The second requirement was the ability of users to share the documents irrespective of their location, by leveraging investment in their current infrastructure.
NeoSoft/ ExcelSoft developed a document management solution to meet the client's requirements. This solution involved integrating the physical and electronic documents into such a document management system, with necessary indexing and profiling of the documents for retrieval purposes based on access rights.
